My name is Phil Collins and I’m an artist and a filmmaker. I’d like to get in touch with people who are in low-paid work, below minimum wage or on zero-hour contracts to talk about their experience of austerity UK and exploitation in the workplace. Also interested in hearing from people who are unemployed and facing challenges within the system.
In 1844 Friedrich Engels wrote ‘The Condition of the Working Class in England’ about the factory workers of Manchester. I’m interested in how are the issues described in this book – exploitation, slum housing, poverty, lack of benefits – reflected in the lives of workers and those out of work today?
I’m looking for contacts who reflect the cross-section of Greater Manchester (from all backgrounds and communities, young and old), especially those with an insight into the day-to-day pressures brought on by benefit sanctions, debt, and poor labour and housing conditions, to take part in a major new film which I’m making for Manchester International Festival.
